The main lid of a baby grand is a massive slab of solid wood, and when it’s propped open, it’s held up by a relatively simple wooden stick. The ideal room conditions are apparently 68°F with exactly 45% to 60% humidity. I seriously bought three separate digital hygrometers to track the data in different corners of our living room. I now possess the highly specific knowledge that the corner next to the bookshelf sits at 42% humidity at 3 PM, which means I might have to buy a room humidifier just to keep a wooden instrument from falling out of tune.
Before you commit to overhauling your entire floor plan for a 600-pound acoustic instrument, maybe just focus on upgrading your kid's daily gear so they can comfortably crawl around the house while you stress over tape measures.
